Vata Savitri Vrat Story
Women should perform this Vrata on trayodasi, caturdaši, and Purnima day. This is the day Sāvitri prayed to Lord Yama and got back the life of her husband.
For those not possible to perform Vata Savitri Vratam on above mentioned three days, they can at least perform on Purnima or Amavasya day. This bestows everlasting Sowbhagya. On this day, the banyan tree should be worshipped with turmeric and kumkum. A thread smeared with turmeric should be tied around the banyan tree while doing pradakshina. Doing 108 such pradaksinas is extremely meritorious.
Offering sesame on this day grants the merits of performing Aswamedha Yagam. Vishnu Purana mentions that the offering of an umbrella, footwear, water pitcher, and fan on this day grants affluence here and exalted state later. Special Abhisekams are performed in Tirupati on these three days.
In Puri (Purushottama Kshetra) also, special Abhisekam is performed to the main deity Jagannatha along with Balabhadra, Subhadra and Sudarsana on the Paurņima day. As this is a very auspicious day, performing Abhishek at home or temple is prosperous.
