5. Trident or Thrishool – The three states of consciousness
The Thrishool is the weapon of Lord Shiva. It has three sharp edges at the end. This trident and its three sharp edges resemble three states of consciousness jagrut, swapna and sushupti which translate in to waking, dreaming and sleeping. Lord Shiva is above all these three states of consciousness and attained the state of Samadhi. The only weapon which takes us to Samadhi state is controlling the remaining three states of consciousness.
