3. Religious and spiritual significance of Nose piercing
South Indian women have their right nostril pierced and North Indian women, their left nostril. Some women have their septum pierced, above their upper lip. The ring worn in the middle of the nose is known as Mukkera in Telugu. This is worn to pay respects to Mother Parvati.
