There lived a brahmin in Bhosala kingdom. The brahmin couple had a daughter and she did not complete the Udyapan after observing the vrat. So, she lost her child, and one day while walking in the forest crying, Lord Shiva Parvati appeared and asked her the reason.
But she replied saying -, “You can not cure my loss or grief. So, leave me alone and you can go on your way”. Listening to this, they identified that her Karma period is not yet ended and left from there. After a few days, they came back and asked her the same question. This time when she explained the reason for her grief, goddess Parvati explained to her about the way she failed to complete the Udyapan while performing Avapuvvula Vrat and how it caused her the Karma.
So, goddess Parvati suggested she re-observe the vrat, tell the Vrat Katha to everyone and then put akshitaan on her head. The goddess told the brahmin’s daughter to do this way and then to complete Udyapan after 1 year. So, she immediately went home as suggested by the goddess, washed the hair of a sumangali woman, took bath, offered a saree, blouse piece, and 12 dosa’s as dakshina thamboolam. Later, she offered ava kommulu along with ghee and jaggery as Vayanam to complete udyapan. Thus she did not grieve until the next 6 births.
