Karthika Pournami
Kartika Masam is the month dedicated to Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva is called Aadi Yogi and born from him were all the yogic practices like different types of yogasanas, breathing practices like pranayamas and all types of meditations. Parameshwara was the originator of all the Tantras too. He can be said as the highest guru of meditations.
The full-moon day which comes in Karthika Masam is very significant spiritually. This is the day, we must meditate to drench in the showers of Maha Deva’s blessings. A penance of strong determination will bring Lord Shiva to us.
There are some things to be done on Karthika Pournami. This day is very auspicious to Hindus as said by the Puranas (holy epics). It is said that they will be blessed with abundance, who perform Rudrabhishekam in Lord Shiva’s temples. Mahanyasa Poorvaka Rudrabhishekam and Ekadasha Rudrabhishekam are to be performed to get the eternal blessings of Lord Shiva.
It is said that Abhisheka Priyo Shivah. This means Lord Shiva likes Abhishekam a lot. Good luck will gush in to the homes of those who perform Kedareswara Vratam on the day of Holy Karthika Pournami. It is good for women to donate turmeric, Kumkum, flowers, tamboolam and Karthika Puranam books on this holy day. Performing Sahasra Lingaarchana and Maha Lingaarchana in temples brings in all the lucks in to one’s life with the grace of Lord Shiva.
It is good bathe in a river early in the morning. If there are no rivers at least one should take bath in wells or tanks nearby. Reciting below given sloka when taking bath makes it a very holy act and cleanses your body and will.

And as said it is psychologically very important to meditate on the night of Pournami (Full Moon Day). Today is Karthika Pournami, the holiest of all the Pournamis. Meditate on Lord Shiva and fill your life with blessings of Lord Shiva, the Layakaaraka. Let him destroy the poison like bad qualities in you. Become an all new person, pray to Aadi Yogi Parameshwara.
