The Elephant’s Prayer That Reached the Heavens:

Gajendra Moksham

Long ago, in the heart of the stunning Trikuta Mountains, where serene rivers flowed and fragrant flowers blossomed, a majestic herd of elephants lived peacefully. Leading them was Gajendra, a mighty and noble elephant, respected and loved by his herd.

One bright sunny day, Gajendra led his group to a sparkling river for a refreshing bath. The forest buzzed with life as the elephants splashed around, enjoying the cool water. Gajendra, using his trunk to spray water, reveled in the pure joy of nature.

But suddenly, disaster struck. A massive crocodile lurking in the river clamped down on Gajendra’s leg with a deadly grip. The joyful waters turned into a chaotic battleground. Gajendra fought with all his strength, trying to free himself. His herd rallied around him, pulling and tugging, but the crocodile’s grip was too strong. Slowly, Gajendra’s strength began to fade.

In his desperation, Gajendra did something extraordinary. Using the last of his energy, he reached out to the heavens, not in despair, but in complete surrender. Plucking a lotus flower with his trunk, he raised it high and called upon Lord Vishnu: “O Lord of the Universe, only You can save me. I offer myself entirely at Your feet. Please free me from this suffering!”

Far away, in the divine abode of Vaikuntha, Lord Vishnu heard Gajendra’s heartfelt plea. He immediately mounted Garuda, His mighty eagle, and sped across the skies to reach His devotee.

In a flash, Vishnu appeared. With His Sudarshana Chakra, He struck down the crocodile, freeing Gajendra. The crocodile, it turned out, was a cu
rsed soul, liberated by the Lord’s touch. Gajendra, overwhelmed with gratitude, knelt before Vishnu, his heart filled with peace and devotion. Vishnu blessed him, granting him eternal liberation and taking him to the heavenly realms.

This timeless tale reminds us of the power of sincere devotion and surrender. When everything else fails, faith in the Divine can work miracles, just as it did for Gajendra.
