Chinnamasta

3. The significance of the incarnation of Maa Chinnamasta

Standing on the couple having sex denotes overcoming carnal desires, the three blood streams are said to be the springing knowledges of ida, pingala and sushumna and finally the severed head is the symbol of freed mind without boundaries. The fierce changeover of Maa Parvati into Tantric Goddess Chinnamasta signifies the greatest transformation of human to divine. There is another explanation which states that those three streams are Vishnugranthi, Rudragranthi and Brahmagranthi, broken, as said in Lalitha Sahasra Nama Stotra.
